Newsletter Term 3 Week 9
From the Principal
End of Term
As we near the end of the Term 3, it’s pleasing to look back on some of the positive achievements that we’ve made so far this year. Our school has welcomed new staff as well as a number of new students. Thank you for making them feel welcome and including them into the Runcorn family.
We have continued our strong improvement agenda this year based around three major priorities. These are:
- Curriculum - Optimise the learning growth for every student in literacy,
- Capability - Expand professional collaborations evidenced in visible expertise and visible culture.
- Culture - Prioritise staff and student wellbeing to facilitate a culture of shared responsibility and collective improvement.
Our school has made some good progress toward the goals that we have set for ourselves this year. As I walk around the school, I see students learning in calm and organised classes and high-quality teaching taking place. Our school has a lot to be proud of regarding the effort that we’re making towards improving student learning outcomes.
Music Extravaganza
This week our music team presented a wonderful night of entertainment at Sunnybank State High School. Our strings, band and choir students are dedicated students who are always working to be the best they can be. Working with our music mentors from Runcorn State High School, students presented a wonderful display of their talents. Thanks go to all staff that helped on the night but especially to our amazing music team - Ms Hopper, Mr Biedermann and Ms O’Callaghan. Thanks also to our wonderful P&C who were there to support the efforts of the school with refreshments and raffles.
Staffing Updates for Term 4

Thank you to our P&C who ran the recent Father’s Day stall and sausage sizzle for our school community. Having our P&C visible and active in our school community is important to us working together to achieve some fantastic things for our students. In saying that a connected community does not exist without the dedication and commitment of our amazing staff. Thank you to each and every one of them.
I wish all of our students, families, and friends a safe and enjoyable Term 3 break. School resumes on Monday September 30.

End of Term Expectations
Before we all head off for our Term 3 holiday, a reminder that our behaviour expectations remain high. This includes before and after school. The expectation is that all 3 Runcorn School Rules are followed by everyone: Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible in all areas of the school. This includes respect for self-health by wearing a hat outside.
Parents are reminded that school finishes at 3.00pm and all parents need to be here at 3.00pm to pick their children up or enrol them in Outside School Hours Care Jabiru.

Planning for Term 4
Throughout the last two weeks of Term 3 all of our classroom teachers will have some time off class to come and prepare and plan for Term 4 learning. Planning days provide opportunities for teachers to work together, share insights, and ensures that teachers are on the same page regarding the implementation of the curriculum. There is going to be some incredibly exciting, fun and interesting learning happening for all of our year levels. Make sure you check out your Class Newsletters early next term to see what amazing learning your child will engage with in Term 4.

Norman's News
As the days get longer and the temperatures warm up, my tail wags with excitement because Spring is truly a dog’s paradise. Here’s what I’ve been sniffing out and rolling in (aka noticing) lately:
1. The Great Outdoors:
Spring means it’s finally time for those epic outdoor adventures. I love feeling the fresh grass beneath my paws and the gentle breeze in my fur. Whether it’s chasing after one of my many squeaky balls, exploring new trails with Harvey, or just basking in the sunshine, Spring makes every outing feel like a grand adventure.
2. Blooming Fun:
Flowers are popping up everywhere, and while I might not understand all the colours and scents, I sure do love the attention they bring. Just a reminder, though—some flowers aren’t safe for us to sniff, so keep an eye out for any no-no blooms. My favourite part is watching the butterflies flit around; I could spend hours trying to catch them (even though I’m not very good at it)!
3. Spring Cleaning:
Now, I’ve heard my humans talk about spring cleaning, but let me tell you, it’s not just the house that needs sprucing up. A good bath and grooming session can make all the difference. Plus, that new collar or bandana you’ve been eyeing? Spring’s the perfect time to sport it!
4. Healthy Paws:
As we enjoy the beauty of Spring, let’s not forget to stay healthy. Regular check-ups, flea and tick prevention, and a balanced diet keep me feeling my best. And speaking of health, nothing beats a good game of fetch to keep our energy levels up and our hearts happy.
So, here’s to a fantastic Spring filled with fun, flowers, and plenty of belly rubs! Happy Spring to all my two-legged and four-legged friends out there!
Until next time,
Big licks and tail wags,
Norman

Thanks to our amazing Runcorn community for their support at the Music Showcase on Tuesday night at Sunnybank State High School. The ensembles and choirs all did an amazing job and Mr Biedermann, Miss O’Callaghan and Ms Hopper are very proud of the work you did preparing and performing. Well done to our music captains Jack, Iris, Leah, Conor and Erin who compered the night. Our other band captain Riley was unfortunately sick but his presence in music at Runcorn is greatly appreciated. Thank you to the P&C for their efforts in providing refreshments and the raffles. Thanks to everyone who contributed to make the night amazing!
Singfest
The Senior Choir had fantastic day at Singfest in Week 7 at The Old Museum. They caught the train to Fortitude Valley and met up with several other schools to rehearse in a mass choir of about 200 kids. They finished the day with a concert for their families. Thanks to our choir captain parents Mrs Waldie and Mrs McDonald who came along and supported the choir on the day and also a big thanks to Ms Ryan for coming along. Another big thanks must go to our admin staff Mrs Schultz and Mrs Hedley for the amazing job they do in making these days happen for our kids.

It's an enjoyable and rewarding experience for the selected students, as they'll have the chance to spend some quality time with our principal and engage in discussions and activities during the afternoon tea. From the Administration Office
Student Resource Scheme
We would like to thank all of our families for supporting our Student Resource Scheme. The monies raised helps purchase learning materials used in each of our classrooms and specialist lessons. Your assistance enhances our student's learning outcomes.
Attendance
Runcorn State School's Admin team are available between 8.00am and 3.30pm each school day. You can contact us on 3323 8777 if you have any queries. Student absence texts can be sent to 0429 928 611 or a voice message can be left on 3323 8777 and press option 1.
If students arrive to school from 9.00 am onwards they are to present to the office to collect a late slip. This ensures that our rolls are marked correctly and prevents parents from receiving incorrect absence texts.
First Aid Processes
If children are injured or become ill at school they will receive treatment within the classroom or in the Health Room. Parents/Carers will be contacted if necessary. Please note that staff must give Parents and Carers a courtesy contact home for all head related injuries (no matter how minor).
When a student is considered too unwell to remain at school, parents will be contacted to collect their student in a timely manner. If a student's condition deteriorates while waiting to be collected an ambulance may be called if deemed necessary.
If a student presents to the health room with a suspected allergic reaction, parents/carers will be contacted. As per Education Queensland policy, if a student requires an EpiPen to be administered parents will be notified. An ambulance must be called and the student will be transported to hospital for further treatment. Children with known allergies will have their own school based EpiPen. We also hold a school EpiPen for any unforseen emergencies.
Medication must be prescribed by a doctor or dentist and may only be administered to students by school staff. The medication must be taken to the school office in its prescription container and administered according to the doctor’s instructions.
Non prescribed oral medication such as Panadol and cough mixtures can only be administered by school staff with a pharmacy label and medical authorisation. Education Queensland prohibits students from carrying their own medication to school and requires Parents/Carers to deliver the prescribed medication to the office and collect after school or before weekends as needed. A school register of all medicines administered is kept.
Incursion/Excursion/Camp Payments
Runcorn State School is now a cashless school. Thank you for continuing to pay for your children's incursions/excursions/camp payments via our preferred methods:- BPoint and EFTPOS. If you require any assistance paying via BPoint, please contact the school office. Unfortunately we are unable to accept payments over the phone.
DID YOU KNOW?..... that using BPoint is a convenient and secure way to pay for your child's school invoices. BPoint is a user-friendly online payment platform that enables you to pay your school invoices quickly and easily, without having to worry about sending cash or cheques through the mail or visiting the school in person. It can also be done by phoning the school on 3323 8777, choosing Option 2 which will redirect you to the BPoint payment platform.
By using BPoint, you can make payments from the comfort of your home or office at any time, day or night. You can also track your payment history and receive email receipts for each transaction, making it easier to keep track of your expenses.
BPoint offers a secure and reliable payment system, ensuring that your personal and financial information is protected. It also helps reduce administrative costs for the school, which ultimately benefits the entire school community.
We strongly recommend giving BPoint a try for your next school invoice payment. It's an efficient and hassle-free way to pay your school fees.
We have also included some easy to follow instructions. If you still require further assistance with the process please contact our friendly Admin team!

Important Update: Uniform Shop Price Increase Starting Term 4
We wanted to give everyone a heads-up that, due to an increase in costs from our supplier, there will be a price adjustment for items in the uniform shop, effective as of Term 4. We understand that price changes can be challenging, and we’re working hard to ensure we continue offering the best possible prices to our community while also maintaining the financial viability of the shop.
We value your support and aim to keep any increases as minimal as possible. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for the updated pricing, or feel free to contact the uniform shop directly if you have any questions or need more information.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we navigate these changes.
Thank you all
