Hello and welcome to Term 4 2025! We trust you had an enjoyable break; we are very excited to commence our final term with the preps of 2025! This newsletter will outline events that will be occurring this term and remind you of the expectations within our classrooms. We encourage you to keep this newsletter handy so that you can refer to it when needed.

English
In Term 4 English, students will continue focussing on: oral language development, phonemic awareness skills, speech sounds, name writing, rhyming words, memory, blending and segmenting words, exposure to familiar words – reading and writing, decodable reading, handwriting through Casey the Caterpillar, involvement with quality literature and learning the concepts of print (left to right, use of pictures, top to bottom). They will explore the structure of a retell through familiar and personal stories.
Students will be assessed on their ability to read, view and comprehend an imaginative text. As well as their ability to create a short-written text to retell a familiar story and to state their thoughts and feelings.
Mathematics
In Term 4 Mathematics, students will continue to explore concepts including combining and partitioning numbers to at least 10 using a variety of different methods and manipulatives including counters, 10 frames and natural resources. They will compare the size of collections to at least 20. Students will explore the connection between numerals, number names and their position in a sequence.
Students will be assessed on their ability to combine and partition to 10 in a variety of ways. As well as their ability to compare collections to 20.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
In Term 4 HASS, students will continue to examine personal growth and development, families, relationships, rules and how we fit into the community. Students will explore familiar events and celebrations throughout the world. They will ask and respond to questions about their own lives.
Students will be assessed on their ability to connect familiar events and celebrations to personal experiences. Students will identify family members and stages of life.
Science
In Term 4 Science, students will explore the properties and behaviour/movement of familiar objects. They will investigate how different objects can be rolled, pushed, bounced and slid.
Students will be assessed on their ability to share and reflect their observations of the behaviour of familiar objects.
Technologies
In Term 4, Students will explore a variety of design and digital technologies. They will utilise Bee-Bots across several curriculum areas.
Students will be assessed on identifying and comparing hardware and software.
The Arts
Students will participate in visual art and will explore colours, lines, shapes and textures through different mediums.

Students will move, sing, play games and explore So and Mi in voice and on chime bars and rehearse repertoire for the End of Year Concert.
Students will be assessed on:
- a) Perform a So and Mi song two ways (singing and using chime bars) (small group task).

Students explore their identity, families, and cultures, recognise differences and similarities, and understand that everyone has strengths and the right to belong.
Students will be assessed by their ability to share personal connections, describe different family and cultural practices, and explain how they and others can contribute positively to groups.

Prep students will begin pool lessons from Week 1 with revision of how to safely enter and exit shallow water using methods suitable for the water location. An increased focus will be placed on freestyle skills this term with the goal of having most students able to swim from one side of the pool to the other unaided.
Assessment: Demonstrate safe entry and exit skills and be able to swim for a minimum of 10 continuous metres.

Year 2 and 2/3 D :
Students will deliver a presentation to express a preference for a lunchtime activity and persuade their peers to join in their chosen activity. They will learn to read, compare and create persuasive texts. Students will develop their presentation skills in small groups and in front of the class.
Year 1/2 C : Students will select a character from a familiar narrative text they have read in class. They will generate ideas, plan, write and edit their own story based on their selected character.
Students will be assessed on their written narrative. This will include their use of appropriate narrative structure and language features to link their ideas. Students’ use of correct sentence structure and punctuation will also be assessed.
Mathematics
Year 2 and Year 2/3D: We will be focusing on the following concepts: Measurement and Mathematical modelling.
Students will also use uniform units to measure, compare and discuss the attributes of shapes and objects based on length, capacity and mass. They will use mathematical modelling to solve practical multistep problems.
Year 1/2C :
Students will be investigation fractions and use mathematical modelling to solve practical multistep problems. They will also be using mathematical modelling to solve practical additive problems involving money.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
Year 2, Year 1/2 C and Year 2/3D: Students will be: Examining technologies and how they have changed over time. They will have the opportunity to experience hands on learning by using and playing with toys and household items from the past.
Students will be assessed by: Describing and comparing past and present technologies, and describing the impact of the changes over time.
Science
Year 2 and Year 2/3D: Students will investigate the question: Is it important to conserve Earth’s resources? What part do we play? They will investigate Earth's resources. They will describe how Earth's resources are used and the importance of conserving resources for the future of all living things.
Students in 1/2C will be assessed by: To identify different uses of water and describe ways to conserve it.
Year 1/2C:
Students will investigate the relationships between forces and the motion of objects.
Students will be assessed by: Designing and constructing a toy using scientific understanding of push and pull.
Technologies

Students will be using technology to explore direction and position.

Students will create a short, spoken text to express a preference and opinion about their favourite thing to do and why. They will use language features including topic-specific vocabulary, and features of voice.
Mathematics
Students will order and represent numbers beyond 10 000 and solve problems involving two- and three-digit numbers. They will find unknowns in addition and subtraction number sentences and create algorithms and explore patterns. Students will also conduct chance experiments and identify outcomes and the likelihood of events.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
Students will explore similarities and differences in places near and far. They will look at Australia’s states and territories; the continents of the world; Australia’s neighbours; and the human and natural features of Australia and its neighbouring countries. Students will learn about the role of rules within communities and how decisions are made democratically. This will form part of our inquiry, “How are places similar and different?”
Students will be assessed on their ability to describe and interpret data about Australian places. They will also identify similarities and differences between the characteristics of places. Students will identify the steps and importance of the Democratic Decision-Making Process.
Science
Students will use their understanding of the movement of Earth to suggest explanations for everyday observations such as day and night, sunrise and sunset and shadows.
Students will be assessed on their ability to communicate their understandings and findings about the regular changes on Earth and its rotation.
Technology
Students will plan and safely produce designed solutions. They will generate and record their design ideas using a range of technical terms and methods.
Students will be assessed on their ability to design and make a Solar Oven, incorporating technical and sustainability factors.

Students will be assessed on their ability to read and comprehend a chapter of our English novel, and to explain how the author used literary devices for effect.
How can we convince others of a point of view?
Students will be assessed on their ability to present a spoken persuasive text using appropriate subjective and objective language and features of voice.
Mathematics
How do we use maths in our everyday lives?
Students will be assessed on their ability to:
- use mathematical modelling to solve problems, including financial problems;
- Find unknown values in numerical equations involving addition and subtraction;
- follow and create algorithms that generate sets of numbers and identify emerging patterns;
- conduct repeated chance experiments and describe the variation in results;
- order events or the outcomes of chance experiments in terms of likelihood and identify whether events are independent or dependent.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) with Miss Krause
How has life on this land changed? Why do we have rules and laws?
Considering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, students will be assessed on their ability to use sources to explore the reasons for the journey of the First Fleet and the nature of contact between First Nations peoples and others. Students will be assessed on their ability to locate information from sources, describe the experiences of individuals or groups from the past, and recognise the significance of events in bringing about change.
Students will also be assessed on their understanding of the difference between rules and laws including how they are made and by whom.
Science with Ms Ryan
Is it fair? Students will investigate fair testing to assess the properties and usefulness of various materials.
Students will be assessed on their ability to plan, safely conduct, collect data on, and reflect on an experiment using the properties of materials.
Digital Technologies with Mrs Cunningham
How can digital technologies help us learn?
This term students will explore how to collect and represent data from a range of sources to support decisions. They will explore algorithmic thinking including branching and repetition through use of a visual programming language, “Scratch”.
Students will be assessed through a portfolio of work.

Years 5 & 6: Students will develop swimming strokes and lifesaving skills. A shifting of focus away from freestyle and more towards backstroke and breaststroke, will occur for those more capable students.
Assessment: Students will perform freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and survival backstroke. They will combine lifesaving skills, movement concepts and strategies to complete lifesaving scenarios.
Japanese with Sensai Nagashima
Students use language to explore restaurant and food industry.
- Providing a food review following the bento incursion in Term 3.
- Students also have MS Teams call with Japanese school (Week3).
- Use Japanese phrases used at the restaurants.

The Arts
Students will analyse social, historical and cultural artworks and discuss the impacts of the artworks. Students will create an artwork that reflects artistic techniques to demonstrate meaning and purpose.
Drama: Mrs Cramb
Students will in small groups perform a short melodrama and explain and describe a performance viewed.
Year 6
Welcome to the final term of your student’s journey through primary school. This term includes many events such as Bandana Day and Wear Red for Daniel Day, Swimming Carnival, End of Year Concert, Music Awards and the Year 6 Graduation among many others.
Information for these will be provided and we thank you in advance for prompt returning of notes and payments as clear deadlines are provided by outside organisations.
School begins at 8.45am. Please ensure students arrive prior to the 8.45am bell so they can have an organised start to the day.

Curriculum Focus
This year has seen Year 6 students learn all about change and how they can adapt to the changes ahead. Term 4 will focus on supporting students so they are well prepared for their high school journey.
Term 4 Learning
English with classroom teacher
Students will study fantasy narratives: Structures, language features, vocabulary and how events, characters and settings are depicted.
Students will read, view and comprehend a chapter in a fantasy novel and answer questions.
Students are going to write a narrative story including a supporting image, using elements of science fiction.
Mathematics with classroom teacher
Students estimate and solve problems involving rational numbers and percentages, identify and explain rules in growing patterns, and create and use algorithms.
Students assign probabilities, conduct a chance experiment, run simulations and analyse results to solve a problem.
HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences) with Mirs Jarvis and Mrs McNamara
This term we continue investigating our connections with the rest of the world through trade, immigration, aid and tourism.

This term we are focusing on living things and how they thrive in their environment. We will ask the questions: What conditions lead to improved growth? How can knowledge of this growth help our farmers, the health of our people or the economy?
