Year 5 camp
What a blast! I was fortunate to be able to join the Year 5 students at Currumbin Recreation Centre for three days of team work, collaboration, resilience and problem solving. The manner in which the students tested themselves, stepped out of their comfort zones and encouraged each other was incredible. Families have much to be proud of, your children shined.
I would like to thank the teachers that gave up their time to attend as well as the ones that held the fort for us back in the real world. Only a team can ensure the success of an event like this.
Prep Information session
We had a great turn out for our evening Prep information session. What most impressed us were the questions parents had about how our Runcorn family operates. Our staff are always keen to share what they love about this hidden treasure of a school and we look forward to welcoming you all to our getting to know you chats.
If you haven’t picked up your enrolment pack yet, they are available at the office. Our Preparatory Year enrolment process for the 2023 school year has commenced.
Prep Enrolment for 2023
Our Preparatory Year enrolment process for the 2023 school year has commenced. In terms of the enrolment process, parents are invited to complete an enrolment form and collect an enrolment package from the front office. Our Prep program for 2023 includes opportunities for our new students to join our school in a Pre-Prep program which will be held over four weeks during Term four. This program will be a great way of connecting and engaging with our school in preparation for next year. We encourage you to enrol your child early, to ensure your place is guaranteed for 2023 and to give us a clear idea about the number of classes we can form. All enrolments require a Getting to Know You chat with one of our Prep teachers.

Storytime Society
In the lead up to Book Week every Friday morning at 8:55am we have a mystery guest read one of the 2022 shortlisted books over the loud speaker for all of us to enjoy together. Thank you to Mrs Anglim, Mrs Sutherland and Ms Elliott for being our first three mystery readers. I wonder who we will hear next?
What’s my favourite book challenge?
Look out for the ‘What’s My Favourite Book Challenge’ on my office window. Every week will feature a new teacher giving you clues about their favourite book. Find the answers on the Library door the week after. Have fun using the clues to figure it out.

Wednesday 24th August is “Dress up Day” where students and staff come dressed as their favourite book character. It is always a fun-filled, exciting day, so put your thinking caps on and raid your dress-up boxes! We can’t wait to see your creativity.
Our Scholastic Book Fair will be held during Book Week. The Book Fair is a reading event that brings a range of fantastic books to school that every student wants to read. There’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for all reading levels. Students will bring home more information about this next week.
What is happening in Japanese?
7th of July was TANABATA festival in Japan. Year 4 students learnt the story behind the festival, and they wrote a wish on a strip of origami paper and hung on the bamboo tree. Year6 students learnt table manners and practiced using chopsticks. I hope they can continue practising at home ready for Japanese restaurant excursion planned for Term 4.
Nagashima Sensei
From the Health Teacher....
On Friday August 5, Tuan and Del, paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service, visited the Year 1 and Year 2 students as a part of their Health Curriculum. The paramedics introduced Queensland Ambulance Service, their roles and responsibilities, and educated students on what to do in the event of an emergency. Students explored a range of emergency situations and spent time exploring elements of the Ambulance vehicle.
Thank you, Tuan and Del, for your daily contributions to our local community and for visiting our Juniors.
Our focus this fortnight is the Resilience Key. Resilience at Runcorn State School looks like
- Students bouncing back from daily challenges
- Students adopting a Growth Mindset and thinking positively
- Students working independently and/or together to solve problems
- Students using strategies to help keep them calm and focussed
Staff across Runcorn State School will be actively looking for students displaying resilience skills. Over the next fortnight, one student per class will be awarded with a certificate to acknowledge their dedication to consistently displaying resilience skills.
Well done to students who have been acknowledged for demonstrating skills of organisation, getting along, resilience, persistence and confidence.

Runcorn Reading Club
When: Wednesday morning before school 8:15am
Where: outside 2IH classroom, D block
The Runcorn State School little library book exchange trolley is out and available for all students to enjoy during reading club. It is loaded with beautiful books donated by Runcorn families.
How it works:
Take a book - If children see a book they’d like to read they can take it with them to read at home or in class. Once they have finished with it they can return it to the trolley.
Give a book - if children would like to keep the book. They can bring one from home to leave on the trolley in it’s place.
Happy Reading!
Mrs Irons
From the Prep Rooms
Last Wednesday Prep students marked a very special milestone. Their 100th day of school!
They celebrated with a huge pyjama party disco and made royal crowns and 100 day badges.
The Preps also had a fabulous 100 Days Meal Deal from the tuckshop. The P&C provided a delicious cupcake for each Prep student for the occasion. Yum!
100 days of school is a great way to acknowledge the growth, progress and achievements of our littlest students. Happy 100 Days!!!

Junior Sports Day
What a great day we all had. The smiles on the children’s faces and overall excitement are the best thing in the world to see. It was great to see everyone having a go at all the activities. A huge thank you to our Year 6 student helpers who ensured all the children did their best at the Mini Olympics, Ball Games, Novelty Races and Running Races. They kept the fun rolling all day. Thank you to all the parents for helping your children turn up in their house colours. It looked like a mini rainbow. Days like this are what PE is all about. Congratulations Grevillea for an incredible team effort.

Norman's News
Thank you for another fabulous pawnight of activity at Runcorn!
I have been lucky enough to have pawticipated in the 100 days of Prep celebrations and junior sports day alongside my usual work with small groups of boys and girls and in classrooms! Mrs Schooth and I really enjoyed the disco, surprising lots of Preppies with my two-legged dance moves and provoking lots of conversations about how tall I am!
It was also lots of fun to watch the running races on Sports Day. Although I spent most of the race that I ran in trying to eat my leash, it was glorious to stretch out my long legs and do my best to stay in my lane! I think Mrs Schooth and I will have to do some training before the event next year!
I would also like to say a big thank you to Ethan and Bella who showed me such kindness this week. Kind words and a food delicacy are sure ways to my heart!
Environment Club News
Please check out the Heritage Garden. The vegetables, herbs and pest repellent flowers are growing voraciously. The lettuce is even ready to be picked and hopefully will be used in the tuckshop. Classes can visit any time (pretty sure it fits in the curriculum somewhere). Families are now starting to explore this space before and after school. The chilli plant that can be accessed by staff if you are thinking of cooking something hot for dinner. Help yourself.
Each class now has an amazing Maze Compost Caddy like the picture below. Don’t forget to empty the fruit scraps into the Subpods regularly and the lids can be locked shut using the handle. Hopefully, these caddies won’t get as smelly as the clear containers.
The collection of BREAD BAGS and WRAP BAGS is going very well. The official WONDER boxes are filling fast. One is still in the front of the office and one is in the PCYC front entrance for the collection of both bread bags and wrap bags from any bread company, not just Wonder. The bags collected will be swapped for points towards sporting equipment for the school.
The next venture that Environment Club we are hoping to fully launch this Term is collecting of bottles etc for the containers for change program. Clear containers will be positioned in both eating areas soon and the Environment Club students will bag them up ready to deposit at the appropriate drop off vending machine. Hoping to raise much need funds for the school. Any staff member keen to contribute to this project can deposit their glass, plastic and cans in the TOMRA Reverse Vending Machine near Macgregor State Primary School (pictured below) using the Scheme ID number below.
Thanks for all your support with these ventures.
Please remind students that Environment Club is open to all year levels and will be held:
Tuesday lunchtime 11:30am – Ms Daglish (children need to listen for the announcement)
If you have time, check out the Subpod in Prep garden and the Heritage Garden and we thank the Runcorn community for the support with both the collecting of fruit scraps and bread/wrap bags.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
